Botanical painting

I work in watercolour, mainly on botanical subjects and exhibit in New Zealand and in Australia.

I mainly follow my own curiosity and personal interest, although if I am working as part of a residency there will be a generally agreed theme. As Friends’ Visiting Artist at Auckland Botanical Gardens I worked on an edible plant theme, and now at the Auckland Wintergardens I will be working on a series of artworks and workshops related to the amazing plants cared for and displayed by a very dedicated staff

A few of my original works are for sale here and cards and archival quality prints here.

Personal commissions

I enjoy creating unique botanical artworks with personal significance. I love flower symbolism and it is a joy to be able to incorporate it into an artwork

This wreath was commissioned by Anna who wanted to give her husband Tony, a gift which reflected the combined heritage of their family. Each of the plants represents a country from which they have descended, with the double pohutukawa flower for their New Zealand born children.

Editorial illustration

I was honoured to be asked to create a work using well-loved kitchen implements for the cover of Nourish Magazine’s new cookbook. Although not strictly a botanical subject, the wooden grain on the spoons of my friends and family was a pleasure to paint.

As a bonus this cover has been shortlisted as one of three three Finalists in Gourmand International’s Magazine’s 29th Cookbook Awards.
